Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

MD Formatter never sends your data anywhere. Nothing it reads leaves your device, and nothing is sold or shared.

There is no server, no account, no analytics, and no telemetry. The extension makes no network requests of its own.

Data the extension handles

To do its job, the extension handles two kinds of data. Both stay on your device.

Website content
The text of Markdown, llms.txt and other plain-text documents you open, read so it can be displayed formatted. It is processed in memory, only for the page you are looking at. It is never stored, never logged, and never transmitted.
Your settings
Theme, size limit, and any per-site rules you choose to set — which include the addresses of the sites you set them for. These are kept in Chrome's extension storage. If you have Chrome sync turned on, Chrome syncs them to your own Google account like any other browser setting; the developer never receives them.

The extension does not keep a record of the pages you visit.

What the extension does

MD Formatter reads the text of documents your browser has already loaded and displays a formatted version of them in place. It acts on Markdown files, llms.txt files, and plain-text documents that clearly contain Markdown.

All of this happens inside your browser, on your device. The document text is never sent anywhere — not to us, not to any third party.

One thing worth knowing: once a document is formatted, any images it references load from the addresses written in it, exactly as they would on an ordinary web page. The extension itself contacts no server.

Permissions, and why

Reading page content on sites you visit
Chrome shows this at install as “read and change all your data on all websites.” The extension cannot know whether a page is a Markdown document without looking at it. It checks the content type of every page you open and stops immediately unless the page is a text document. It never transmits what it reads, and it does not run on ordinary web pages.
Storage
Holds the settings described above, and nothing else.
Active tab
Lets the toolbar popup tell which site you are on, so it can show the right per-site setting. It applies only while you have the popup open.

Data we could sell, share, or lose

None. The developer holds no data about you, so there is nothing to sell, nothing to share with third parties, nothing to hand over on request, and nothing to leak.

Changes

If a future version of the extension ever changes what it accesses, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change with it.
